1937:
AL 8, NL 3
President Franklin D. Roosevelt was in the crowd that saw Cardinals pitcher Dizzy Dean suffer an injury that became the turning point in his career. A line drive by Cleveland's Earl Averill fractured Dean's toe. Because Dean refused to rest the injury, he began to favor his leg, which led to arm problems that plagued him thereafter. Dean, then 26, had won 82 games in the previous three seasons, but slipped to 13-10 in 1937 and won only 16 more games in the final five years before he retired. The AL won the game 8-3.
