The American League was presumed to have an unfair advantage because six Yankees started. One NL fan summed it up: "We can beat an all-star American League team, but we can't beat the Yankees." He was right. The Americans won 3-1, but the star was Indians pitcher Bob Feller. Coming into a bases-loaded, one-out situation in the sixth, Feller quickly got a double play. He went on to pitch one-hit ball for the final 3 2/3 innings.
