This was the first rain-shortened All-Star Game. The rain made the Nationals 3-2 winners after five innings and cost the Athletics' Bobby Shantz a chance to tie Carl Hubbell's consecutive strikeout record. Shantz had struck out Whitey Lockman, Jackie Robinson and Stan Musial in the fifth. Robinson's solo homer and Hank Sauer's two-run homer provided all the NL runs.
