Cincinnati's Ken Griffey broke up a no-hitter by the AL by stroking a home run in the fifth to help lead the NL to a 4-2 win in Los Angeles. AL Cy Young winner Steve Stone was the first pitcher to throw three perfect innings since Denny McLain did it in 1966. Griffey went two-for-3 to win MVP honors.
