Rice, Williams to be All-Star coaches

NEW YORK - Jimy Williams of the hometown Red Sox, former Boston manager Don Zimmer and Jerry Manuel of the Chicago White Sox were picked Thursday as AL coaches for the All-Star game at Fenway Park on July 13.

Jack McKeon of the Cincinnati Reds and Jim Riggleman of the Chicago Cubs were selected as NL coaches.

AL manager Joe Torre of the Yankees also picked Red Sox batting coach Jim Rice and all six of New York regular-season coaches: Jose Cardenal, Chris Chambliss, Tony Cloninger, Willie Randolph, Mel Stottlemyre and Zimmer.

NL manager Bruce Bochy of the Padres also selected San Diego coaches Greg Booker, Tim Flannery, Rob Picciolo, Merv Rettenmund and Mark Merila.

Jim Rowe of the Red Sox and Steve Donahue of the Yankees are the AL trainers. David Tumbas of the Cubs and Greg Lynn of the Reds are the NL trainers.
