Step up the heat
Radio and Web

If you're interested in sampling Latin music from the sofa before heading out to the clubs, here's a sampling of radio stations and programs. (Note: WNFT, WBPS, and WUNR are all Latin, all the time.)

WBUR-90.9 FM Saturday nights, midnight to 5 a.m., "Con Salsa" with Peter Martinez and Jose Masso. Masso is a local legend and this program is a Latin music lover's favorite.

WNFT-150 AM "La Mega." This New York mega station recently opened a Boston sister station. WNFT plays current Latin hits.

WMBR-88.1 FM Sundays from noon to 2 p.m., "Brazilian Style," hosted by Bossa magazine publisher Marlon Catao. Features Brazilian music such as bossa nova and samba.

WBPS-890 AM "Estrella." Plays a mix of Latin styles, less current and less dance-oriented than "La Mega."

WUNR-1600 AM "Radio Galaxia." Plays a mix of Latin styles.

You can listen to Latin music on the Massachusetts Communications College's Web site at www.masscomm.edu 7-9 p.m. every Saturday or listen to Northeastern's "La Rumba" radio show on Saturdays 10 p.m.-midnight. The show can be heard on Northeastern's station 104.9, but chances are you'll have better luck listening at www.dice.net.
