Beer, music, food, and gossip - for as little as $10 Every section of Boston has one (at least). They don't attract the Euro set, they're no place to be seen, there are no $200 bottles of champagne. They are neighborhood bars where, for less than $10, you can get a draft beer, a sandwich, and an earful of what's happening in town. When moviemakers want an authentic Boston location, they seek out a neighborhood bar. When a politician wants to seem like a regular guy, he goes to a neighborhood bar. The live bands swing and rock and bop for little or no cover charge. The pool tables are coin-operated and the house darts are behind the bar. These are the places your father and grandfather may have gone (and may still go), and one story can't possibly do justice to them all. We've come up with a sampling to introduce you to these neighborhood institutions:
Allston/Brighton
Fenway
Financial District
South End
Cambridge
Dorchester
Jamaica Plain
