Wandering New England
Three game plans to get you out of the house
Where to take your little deuce coupe
Those of us who drive sportscars tend to view New England's roads a bit differently than the rest of you. While you might prefer a six-lane interstate, we'll take a two-lane backroad. While you might choose a highway with an assortment of roadside attractions, we want a route where nothing happens except the road itself. While you might prefer straight, we like crooked.
Barn-hopping
Our rural New England landscape is unimaginable without barns. They are as essential to our idea of how New England looks as maple trees, stone walls, and lobster traps.
Exclamation points
There is something about an island, Robert Louis Stevenson wrote, that changes us forever. The same might be said about peninsulas. These fingers of land pointing into ocean or bay are largely surrounded by water, washed by aqueous light, and separated from the mainland in a way that invites contemplation.
