Political Experience
In 1970, Cellucci was elected
to the Hudson Charter Commission. A year later, he won election
to the Hudson Board of Selectmen and he served on that panel
until
1976, when he was elected to the first of four terms in the
Massachusetts
House of Representatives. In 1984, Cellucci was elected to the
Massachusetts Senate from the Middlesex and Worcester District,
and in 1989 became the Senate's Assistant Republican Leader.
During
his fourteen years in the Legislature, Cellucci was heavily
involved
in health care issues, campaign finance reform and issues
concerning
local government.
Legal Experience
From 1973 to 1990, Cellucci practiced law in
his hometown of Hudson.
Presidential Campaign Experience
He served as Chairman of former President
Bush's Massachusetts campaign in 1988 and as Bush's New England
Chairman in 1992.
Gubernatorial Experience
Paul Cellucci and Governor
William Weld were
elected on November 6, 1990. They were reelected to serve a
second
term in November 1994. As Lieutenant Governor, Cellucci shares
the policy development and administrative responsibilities of
the executive branch with the Governor. He also serves as Chair
of three gubernatorial commissions or task forces on issues
ranging
from domestic violence, the Central Artery/Third Harbor Tunnel
project and Massachusetts Water Resource Authority rate relief.
In addition, Cellucci is Chairman of the Massachusetts Jobs
Council,
the job-training policy arm of the administration's economic
development
strategy.
