Dr. Holman holds degrees form the University of Wisconsin,
Washington University Medical school and Harvard University.
Medical Awards & Recognition
He began his career at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital (now Brigham
and Women's ) in 1970 and was appointed Chairman of the
Department in 1988. He has been honored by his colleagues with
numerous awards
for his achievements in radiology and his contribution to brain
and heart research. Among his awards are:
The Herman L. Blumgart Pioneer Award
The Distinguished Educator Award presented by
the Society of Nuclear Medicine
The Established Investigator Award from the American Heart Association.
Drug Education
Dr. Holman developed and produced
the video tape "Cocaine and the Brain", an
instructional aid demonstrating the effect of cocaine on blood flow to the
brain using computer generated single photon emission computed
topography images. The video has been distributed to over 13,000 U.S. middle
schools and is used as part of the U.S. Naval Reserve Campaign
Drug Free program.
"Cocaine and the Brain" has received numerous awards, including:
The Freddie (First Place) at the International Health and Medicine Film Festival
The CINE Golden Eagle Award from the Council on International Notheatrical Events
The Bronze Plaque Award from the Film Council of Greater Columbus
The Silver Medal from the Medikinale International Parma
Publications
Dr. Holman has authored more
than 300 articles and has written and edited major textbooks in
the field of nuclear medicine and radiology. He has been on the
editorial board of more than 20 scientific journals in radiology,
nuclear medicine and cardiology.

accessed via the World Wide Web on the Internet. The server is
located at the Countway Library, Harvard Medical School, and is
a cooperative project of the Department of Radiology at Brigham
and Woman's Hospital and the Countway Library. BrighamRAD can

Photography
His photography has received awards from the Boston Globe and
Eastman Kodak and
has been published in the journals Radiology,The
American Journal
of Radiology and the New England Journal of Medicine.
In recent
years, Dr. Holman has applied digital image processing techniques
to his photographs. He has exhibited his photographs locally and
will have an exhibit at the University of Massachusetts Medical
Center Gallery in the Spring.
