Michael Holley returning as Globe sports columnist

Michael Holley is returning as a Globe sports columnist.
Holley, who left in September to take a similar position at the Chicago Tribune, will resume the spot he held for the last two years starting the week of Jan. 13, 2002.

"His vacated position had yet to be filled," said sports editor Don Skwar. "Heck, the seat he had is still warm. We were extremely disappointed that Michael was leaving, and we're equally excited about his return home. Michael's return, coupled with the addition of Jackie MacMullan to our staff, will give readers even more to read than they have now, which is already top-notch."
Holley will join Dan Shaughnessy and Bob Ryan as three-day-a-week columnists; and MacMullan will write one column a week and write features for the Globe. Will McDonough, who retired in July, will continue to write his Sunday notes column.
