"This is a different country this morning," the Globe's David Shribman writes, a nation brought to a breathless, terrified standstill. Do you feel vulnerable, afraid? Have we lost our freedom, our sense of security, our breezy confidence? Share your thoughts.
Mark, Quincy
We have lost our feeling of invincibility. But, we can not give these devils the satisfaction of knowing we are afraid. We must carry on somehow. And believe me, when we find the parties responsible, *I* will be throwing candy to children at their executions.
JJJ, Weymouth
I don't feel vulnerable. We were vulnerable

It's about time we woke up. A biological attack will be worse when it happens and maybe then we will shift how we think about defending our way of life. The whole structure of the the military must change to combat destruction that occurs with in our own infrastructure.

I believe to US has been hit by a huge blow but we will not tolerate what has happen to us. I feel scared to walk outside, to use public transportation, and to be in a big city. Our sense of security is gone but our freedom gone never be taken away. My heart goes out to those in New York, Washington, California, and all other states hit by this ruthless act. God bless the firemen and police, god bless to red cross and VOLUNTEERS. America will not stand for this and we will regain what we had before this act.
Mike Bellusci, Winthrop
All domestic airline pilots should now be licensed to carry firearms while flying to protect themselves and their passengers.
David, Westford
How can we not feel different now? There are so many things you can be watchful for and protect yourself from. You cannot easily protect yourself from a person willing to kill himself in the process of killing you. It now appears that there were lots of suspicious things going on yesterday. The airplanes went off there normal routes, but this was not considered out of the ordinary by flight controllers. At the same time that these things should have been noticed, who could have ever suspected that these airplanes would purposely fly into a building.
Manuel Salmeron, Medway
In times like these, we need to learn from our mistakes and stop being so naive about others that don't respect our freedom and don't appreciate our hospitality. I came to this country 25 year ago from Cuba, and I feel as American as anyone born here. WE CANNOT TOLERATE THIS ACT OF WAR.
K Hedstrom, Sterling
As a nation, yes, we are shaken. However, the people of this country have proven throughout our history that when faced with adversity, such as yesterday's attacks, we have the strength and compassion to put our differences aside and overcome ANY obstacle we face. As Americans, our feelings of fear, anger, and disbelief will bind us together to rectify the situation that we have been thrust into.
Erin Spry, Milford
This is unbelievably impacting....I like many others woke up this morning, and just hurt...in an overall way...it just brings out every emotion that a human being has.
I feel pride in our president and our country, for I know that they will do everything they can to protect us. I feel like a sick child who wants their mother to take care of them. I just want Bush to take care of me, and everyone within this country (his children) I have faith in the country I live in and the man we have chosen to lead us in our time of fear and uncertainty. I don't fear for my life, but I do fear that another human being could do such a horrific thing to fellow humans.
Carol, Ashland
Of course we can never feel the same sense of security that we did before this happened but I believe that we should be able to quell any future attacks like this by being more aggresive toward our known enemies..people who threaten us publically. We need to use some of our resources to show them we will NOT accept this!! The horror we should never forget.
