Jason Morton
West Greenwich, R.I.
Jason R. Morton, 38, wasn't a fan of heavy metal music. According to relatives, Morton went to the station on Thursday night to grab a bite to eat and hang out with his best friend, Tommy Barnett.
"He just went because that's where his friends were going," said Jeffrey Renfro, Morton's brother. "He wasn't really into music. He liked his Harley and enjoyed spending time with his kids."
Morton was a devoted father to his two girls, Ashley, 16, and Kaitlin, 13, Renfro said. Although he was going through a divorce, Morton stayed close to his children -- he lived across the street from his estranged wife.
Morton's mother, Lorna J. Morton, said the youngest of her three boys "was a very good man, the kind of man who would always help you out."
She said the family is still reeling from the tragedy, grieving for her son and for Barnett, who also died in the fire.
"They were best friends," Morton said. "They had known each other since they were kids. Wherever one would go, the other would follow."
