When the snowstorm rattled New England last week, Walter Rich didn't stay inside for long. He used his snowblower to plow out neighbor Glenn Therriault's driveway, and Therriault gave him a ticket to the Great White concert at The Station as a thank-you.
The two went together; Therriault survived.
Rich would "do something and not take any money for it," said Rich's wife, Kimberly Rich. "Glenn gave him the ticket to say thanks. Walter was a caring and loving person. "
Rich, 40, of Attleboro, liked to spend most weekends with his head under a car. Friends who stopped by would usually find him in the same place -- the garage. His wife would fix crackers with pepperoni and cheese for them, and the hours inside that garage would crawl into the night.
He loved his cars and he loved his friends, she said of the husband who won her heart 12 years ago with his great sense of humor. Nicknamed Wally, her husband stood about 6 feet, but acted like a kid at heart.
Rich enjoyed playing chess and cards with his 9-year-old son, Christopher. The two also spent time watching cartoons together.
When he wasn't entertaining his friends and family, Rich was working as a maintenance worker for Massachusetts Electric Co., his employer for 17 years.
