Political briefs: Ventura will meet with Trump today

By Wire Services, 1/7/2000

ST. PAUL - Governor Jesse Ventura refused to talk yesterday about any political motives behind his high-profile Twin Cities events with New York developer and potential Reform Party presidential candidate Donald Trump. ''He's coming to town,'' Ventura said tersely. ''I'll enjoy lunch with him (today).'' Ventura has said he won't support Reform Party presidential candidate Pat Buchanan, but he would not say yesterday whether he would back Trump if he runs for president. (AP)

Pollsters form board for quality control

ARLINGTON, Va. - Pollsters have formed a review board to scrutinize the conduct and reporting of polls, particularly those about the 2000 elections, and to comment on cases of misuse of surveys or distortion of the findings. The board is intended to serve as a quality control panel to ensure that mistakes in polling and coverage are short-lived and don't have undue influence on public understanding and the election process. Andrew Kohut, president of the National Council on Public Polls, made the announcement yesterday at a conference on media coverage of polls. (AP)
