Bush, Dole tie in N.H. poll

Associated Press, January 14, 1999

WASHINGTON -- Texas Governor George W. Bush has a 2-1 lead over former Red Cross director Elizabeth Dole in a national poll on the Republican presidential nomination. But in New Hampshire, they're in a dead heat. Neither is an announced candidate for president.

The poll was done by RKM Research and Communications of Portsmouth, N. H., for CNN and WMUR-TV of Manchester, N.H.

The poll of 576 Republicans taken Friday through Monday had an error margin of plus or minus 4 percentage points. Dole had 31 percent and Bush had 30 percent, while the rest of the field was in single digits. In a CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll taken Friday through Sunday of 410 Republicans, Bush had 42 percent to Dole's 22 percent.
