Forbes drops plans to air fund-raiser
Associated Press, May 7, 1999
Steve Forbes has scuttled secret plans to broadcast the kickoff of his
Republican presidential campaign live on national television, according to an
adviser who said TV networks would not sell the publisher air time for the
Waldorf-Astoria gala. The New York hotel will still be the site of his first
fund-raiser, a June 16 event scheduled to raise $1 million. Forbes originally
hoped to broadcast the event as part of a 30-minute campaign kickoff,
according to a senior adviser.
