GOP figure charged with driving drunk
Associated Press, June 8, 1999
A top Republican fund-raiser who queried Texas Governor George Bush about
past indiscretions, including drinking, has been arrested and charged with
drunken driving. Alexander "Sandy" Tennant, former executive director of the
Massachusetts Republican Party and now a top State House lobbyist, was
arrested at 5 a.m. May 20 at St. Paul and Browne streets in Brookline and
charged with operating under the influence, police said. Tennant, 48, of
Swampscott, who will answer the charges later this month, could not be reached
for comment. On May 28, the Globe reported that Tennant had angered Bush, a
potential presidential candidate, when he grilled him on several subjects at a
March meeting with potential backers in Austin.
