Gore targets Bush on environment

HONEY CREEK, Iowa - Vice President Al Gore criticized the influence of ''big polluters'' on the presidential race yesterday, singling out Texas Governor George W. Bush as a major offender. Gore trumpeted his plan to spend $2 billion on conservation programs, but said, ''We've been facing some real tough opposition'' that's been expressed in campaign giving. ''When you look at the influence of polluters, just to take one category, there was a study from a bipartisan reform group that came out yesterday that 85 percent of all that funding has gone to George Bush,'' Gore said. The Bush campaign rejected the charge. (AP)
