How to vote in today's primary

By Boston.com, 03/07/00

Not sure who you can vote for in today's Massachusetts presidential primary, or where you should go to vote? Here's a rundown of the rules of the game:

  • The polls are open until 8 p.m.
  • If you are registered as a member of a political party -- Republican, Democrat, or Libertarian -- you can only vote in the primary for that party.
  • If you are unenrolled (an independent), you can choose the ballot for the party primary that you want to vote in. But you can only vote in one primary. If you vote in a party's primary, you will automatically be enrolled as a member of that party. However, you can re-enroll as an independent after you vote by filling out a form available at your polling location.
  • If you are not sure where to vote, use the state Election Division's searchable database of polling places. Just enter your zip code, and the service will tell you where to cast your ballot.
