ASHINGTON - Heading into a key stretch of primaries, Arizona Senator John McCain leads Texas Governor George W. Bush 96-67 in delegates to the Republican National Convention.

A total of 1,034 delegates are needed to gain the Republican nomination for president at the party's convention in Philadelphia this summer. Alan Keyes, the other remaining GOP candidate, has four delegates committed to him.

On the Democratic side, Vice President Al Gore leads former New Jersey senator Bill Bradley 42-27. The Democratic nomination requires the votes of 2,170 delegates.

On Tuesday, 56 delegates are at stake in the Republican primary in Virginia. Then, on March 7, about a dozen states will hold primaries and caucuses, with more than 1,200 Democratic delegates and 500 Republican delegates up for grabs.
