Senate hopeful faces signature challenge

US Senate candidate Jack E. Robinson's quest to get on the GOP primary ballot will go to the State Ballot Law Commission after the Democratic and Libertarian parties yesterday filed challenges to his nomination papers. Both parties assert that there are enough wrongly certified voter signatures that the nomination papers do not meet the legal threshold of 10,000 to qualify Robinson for the primary ballot. Robinson, whose candidacy has been snubbed by top state GOP leaders, including Governor Paul Cellucci, filed 10,139 signatures with the secretary of state's office. Robinson is the only Republican candidate challenging Senator Edward M. Kennedy.
