ice President Al Gore widened his lead over Democratic presidential rival Bill Bradley and was closing in on Republican George W. Bush, according to a Newsweek poll released yesterday. Gore led Bradley 49 percent to 27 percent in the poll of 752 respondents Nov. 18-19; the lead was 40 percent to 25 percent in Newsweek's Oct. 28 poll. Matched against Bush, Gore trailed 43 percent to 49 percent; in the October poll, Bush led Gore 53-39. In the Republican race, 62 percent backed Bush, with John McCain, the Republican senator from Arizona, second at 13 percent, about the same as the October poll. The poll has a 4-point margin of error. (Reuters)
