The Big River, Saskatchewan native was Boston's first choice (18th overall) in the 1980 entry draft. In his first full season with the Bruins (1981-82) Pederson scored a team rookie record 44 goals and finished second in the Calder Trophy voting as the NHL's most outstanding rookie. Despite playing only 5 full seasons with the Bruins, Pederson still ranks 20th on the all-time Bruin points list with 417.

In 1986, Pederson was traded to Vancouver as part of the blockbuster trade that brought Cam Neely to the Bruins. He returned to Boston during the 1991-92 season to finish his career after stints in Pittsburgh and Hartford.

Pederson served as a Boston Bruins color analyst on WBZ Radio during the 1995-96 season. He currently works for A.G. Edwards in Boston.
