I thought it was a career ender...there is a patch of grass near the red sox dugout that's a little greener because it was fertilized that night during that live shot. Bob Lobel is the host of The Boston Globe SportsPlus, NESN's high energy debate show featuring the award-winning sports writers of the Boston Globe. The Boston Globe Sports Plus airs every Thursday on NESN at 7 PM or one hour
before Red Sox and Bruins broadcasts.
Lobel has covered sports for WBZ-TV in Boston since 1979 and has been honored with numerous awards, including Massachusetts Sportscaster of the Year eight times. The broadcast veteran began his career as sports director for WJOY Radio in Burlington, Vermont in 1971. In 1972 he moved to
Manchester, New Hampshire to become sports director and play-by-play announcer for WGIR Radio. Lobel moved to Boston as a sports reporter for WBZ Radio in 1976 before becoming sports director at the station. He made the leap to television in 1979, joining WBZ-TV in Boston, where he has been
a sports anchor, host and director.
Lobel holds a bachelor's degree in Education from Kent State University and a master's degree in Education from the University of Vermont. He devotes a large portion of his time to charities, including the Liver Foundation and the Arthritis Foundation. An avid golfer, Lobel has participated in charity golf tournaments to raise money for the Jimmy Fund, the Genesis Fund and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. He has also been Honorary Chairman of the annual Multiple Sclerosis Super Cities Walk and hosts the Bob Lobel Ski Classic at Attitash Mountain to benefit the Genesis Fund.
