Sean McDonough serves as the Boston Red Sox, play-by-play announcer on Friday nights. Friday night games are televised on either UPN 38 or WBZ 4 inside the Boston DMA and on NESN outside the Boston DMA. McDonough has served as the Red Sox play-by-play announcer since 1988. The Boston native has also provided play-by-play for hundreds of nationally televised baseball games including the All-Star Game, League Championships and the World Series.
McDonough began his broadcasting career in 1982 in Syracuse, New York as the play-by-play announcer for the Syracuse Chiefs of the International League. In 1984 he joined NESN as studio host during the network's first season covering Boston Red Sox baseball. He also served as NESN's first Hockey East play-by-play announcer (1984/85). The versatile and highly respected announcer's resume includes play-by-play jobs at CBS, ABC and ESPN covering the NFL, NHL, men's and women's college basketball, golf, tennis and the Olympics.
