Finishing the Big Dig / Photo gallery
Finishing the Big Dig Tom Robertson of Wakefield enjoys a sweeping panorama of the city skyline from the cab of his crane, 180 feet above the Charles River, on March 16, 2000. Robertson spent up to 12 hours a day lifting loads, setting steel, and pouring concrete on the cable-stayed bridge. "It's a lonely job, but you can't beat the view," he said.
