Leonard Zakim in 1996. Zakim built an impressive resume as a social justice activist, serving for two decades as executive director of the New England office of the Anti-Defamation League. But Gov. Paul Cellucci's push to name the bridge after him was opposed by Charlestown residents and politicians who wanted the structure to be named for the 1,500 revolutionaries who fought on nearby Bunker Hill. The compromise name that emerged is considered convoluted by some.
