Work begins on the southern approach to the bridge adjacent to the FleetCenter in March 1999. The existing steel ramps carrying traffic between the elevated Central Artery and Leverett Circle, visible in the center of this photo, complicated construction. Eventually, some of the ramps were closed and the legs of the old elevated highway were cut away.
