Finishing the Big Dig A 620-ton segment of the Leverett Connector Bridge is lifted into place as Big Dig workers Carlos Portal and Tom Chatten ride back to shore from the barge where they were working. The Leverett Connector runs parallel to the Zakim Bridge. It may be less flashy than its neighbor, but the connector plays an important role in moving traffic on and off I-93. Plus, it was completed ahead of schedule in October 1999. On a project plagued by delays, there's beauty in that.
