Art for sale

Danforth ArtFair
Nine of New England's most prestigious galleries will set up shop at the Danforth Museum of Art, 123 Unoin Ave., Framingham, to show and sell works by established and emerging artists. Festivities get under way Friday with a preview benefit from 6 to 9 p.m., where art lovers can meet the artists and gallery owners. Reservations are required for the $25 tickets, which cover a tasting of California wines, buffet, live music, and an early shot at buying the art. Show hours are Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Proceeds benefit the museum. Show only: $6, seniors $5, children under 12 free. 508-620-0050.

Art/Craft '98
This weekend a complement of 100 artists and crafters will gather at the Boston Center for the Arts' Cyclorama, 539 Tremont St., in the South End, for a three-day sale of functional art in contemporary crafts, decorative and wearable fiber art, clay works, leather goods, mixed media art, prints, hand-crafted furniture, jewelry, and dinnerware. Friday 2-9 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. $7 daily, three days $10. 617-426-7700.

"The Nutcracker"
Toss together 2,000 pounds of confetti snow and 1,200 pairs of pointe shoes and what do you get? Boston Ballet's 33d annual production of this holiday classic, set to Tchaikovsky's enchanting score. From Nov. 27 to Jan. 3 a cast of hundreds will present 50 performances of the tale of Clara and her dream adventure at the Wang Theatre, 270 Tremont St., Boston. Joining the ballet's company of world-class dancers, Boston Ballet II dancers, and students from the Center for Dance Education will be a full concert orchestra, a chorus, and more than 400 children portraying toy soldiers, baby mice, reindeer, angels, and lambs. $12-$59. 800-447-7400.
