Thomas Farragher
In 1988, Farragher joined the staff of the San Jose Mercury News, where he covered local and state politics before being named the newspaper's Washington correspondent in l994. In 1997, he was co-recipient of the National Press Club's top award for excellence in covering Washington from a local angle. Farragher and several Globe colleagues won the 1999 National Headliners Award for spot news coverage of a shooting rampage at Connecticut's lottery headquarters. He also is the recipient of several regional writing awards. A native of Clinton, Farragher received his bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Rhode Island.
