Ballot-stuffing became a problem for the commissioner when a deluge of votes from Cincinnati put seven Reds into the starting lineup. Commissioner Ford Frick removed Reds Gus Bell and Wally Post from the team, but manager Walter Alston restored Bell, whose pinch double would drive in two runs. Each team scored three times in the ninth, with the Americans holding on to win 6-5.
