1958:
AL 4, NL 3
The voting problem was addressed by having managers, coaches and players pick the starters, a system that remained in effect until 1970. Early Wynn of the Red Sox was the winner, but the Orioles' Billy O'Dell preserved a 4-3 AL victory by retiring the game's last nine batters. The game's 13 hits were all singles, the first time an All-Star Game had been without extra-base hits.
