THE AFTERMATH
In N.H., GOP insiders took it on the chin
The call went out to members of the Republican establishment only days before the New Hampshire primary. Their candidate was in a tight race, maybe even in trouble. They should do what they could to save him up there -- and, implicitly, to save themselves. But the GOP establishment did too little, or did it too late, or too lamely.

ELLEN GOODMAN Women of New Hampshire send Bush a message
For months there's been this aura about Bush: He was the one Republican who could reverse the gender gap that had put Bill Clinton in the White House. But in the end, canned compassion lost to character, a compassionate conservative lost to a passionate conservative.
