Keyes, who won 14 percent of the vote for third place in Iowa's Republican caucuses Monday, tried to fly from Des Moines, Iowa, to Boston's Logan Airport on Tuesday.

The Northwest Airlines flight was 30 minutes outside of Logan when it turned around and returned to Detroit Metropolitan Airport at 1:50 p.m. because of whiteout conditions in Boston, Keyes spokesman Peter Malvey said.

The radio talk show host from Maryland had planned to attend a fund-raiser in Keene, N.H. Tuesday night. Instead he met with Detroit-area media and appeared on several television news programs via satellite, Malvey said.

Keyes will be on a flight early Wednesday for Manchester, N.H., Malvey said.

"We will do whatever it takes to get the ambassador to the debate tomorrow," he said of the GOP debate which gets under way at 7 p.m. in Manchester.
