DAY TRIPS

North Shore

By rail and cycle

Design your own day trip by selecting an activity along the bike loop on Boston's North Shore. Take your bike on the MBTA Commuter Rail, then hop off one of the stations on the route. Ride the entire circuit of about 32 miles, or just do the segment that gets you to the destination of your choice.

When you're done paddling, exploring, or lolling about, ride to the next station. The route mixes pavement with one stretch of hard-packed earth, country lanes with some well-trafficked streets. The terrain in gently rolling.

The circuit was suggested by Rosemary Janson, creator of Pocket Rides, laminated cards that descrive bike tours of Eastern Massachusetts.
