Testimony of: Carl F. Woost, Major, AGD, 0-1000197.
Taken at: Dachau, Germany.
Date: 3 May 1945. By: Lt. Col. Joseph R. Whitaker, IGD,
Asst. Inspector General, Seventh Army.
Major Carl F. Woost, Jr., 0-1000197, AGD, after being duly sworn and fully advised of his rights under the 24th Article of War made his statement in substance as follows:
39. That I am the executive officer to Colonel Barrett, who is at present in command at Camp Dachau. I am also security officer. I have no personal knowledge of the incident of the two persons being shot yesterday except as it was reported to me by Captain Taylor. Captain Taylor brought in a soldier, a member of "L" Company, 157th Infantry, whom he sent back to his organization. I then got the story from Captain Taylor and contacted the CIC Detachment which is working here screening personnel and requested their assistance. They informed me that that wasn't their work but that it was the function of CID. I then called the Corps C-1 and asked for CID assistance, or if that wasn't available the help of someone from the Provost Marshall's office. So far no one has come. I desired this assistance to determine the identity of the person or persons who killed these two men. In the meantime I put a guard on the dugout where the two bodies are.
40 Q Do you think that you could make your own investigation to determine the extent of the responsibility of the American soldiers in this incident?
A It would be possible, of course. However, with no training in investigations of this sort it would be extremely difficult.
41 Q When did you first come to this camp?
A I believe it was around noon of May 1st.
42 Q Who was in charge of the camp when you came?
A Colonel Robert H. Barrett.
