COVER STORY

First Night 2000: The program
When midnight strikes

Boston Harbor
An explosion of light, sound, and color as fireworks illuminate the night sky. Zambelli Internationale stages the largest fireworks display ever at First Night. Best views are from Christopher Columbus Park on the waterfront. Arrive early for a laser light show on Marriott's Custom House tower.

City Hall Plaza
Jumbotron screens show Boston Pops concert as Keith Lockhart and the mayor lead revelers in a countdown to 2000. Then the scene shifts to the harbor fireworks display. Pyrotechnic effects will light up the plaza as well.

Boston Common
After strolling among the ice sculptures and reveling in the Carnaval-meets-Mardi Gras show by the Revolutionary Snake Ensemble, head for the parade grounds for a laser light show, and count down to 2000.

Copley Square
A night of dancing and admiring ice sculptures peaks when flashing lights and an animated multimedia countdown are projected on the Boston Public Library.

Hynes Convention Center
Hall B transforms into the site of a rockin' multimedia countdown. Swing, world, and popular music set the stage. Or lift your spirits at the Healing Drum and Dance Circle in the Hynes Auditorium.
