Get directions

High end: An African mask after those in the Peabody Museum collection, as well as those in a current exhibit at the Fogg. $850.

Low end: Cricket lick-its, lollipops with real crickets inside. Yes, the crickets are edible. $1.25.

For the fearless orienteer: A wrought iron and Italian marble table with a reproduction of a 1708 celestial map, "Harmonica Macrocosmica" inscribed on the top, for $300 or $310, depending on the height of the table. A four-coaster set, each showing a different quadrant of the map, goes for $46.

A perfect world: You have your choice of two, self-enclosed ecosystems based on those at the Museum of Zoology can be had at Harvard Collections. A saltwater system, which will last up to five years, has plants, a shrimp, and a snail, and requires no maintenance ($62). The freshwater ecosystem is larger, and has a fish - so it requires a little maintenance, feeding the little fellow every 10 days ($130).
