MFA Bookstore and Shop

The MFA is the only local museum whose shop has become an enterprise, complete with mail-order catalog and six satellite stores in area malls. Eighty percent of the merchandise was developed especially for the MFA, including exquisite designs by graduates of the Museum School. There's also an item or two inspired by the Monet show, which closes soon after Christmas.

Get directions

High end: Breathtaking crafts by artists represented in the museum's collections, such as jeweler Yoshiko Yamamoto, glass artists Dale Chihuly and Josh Simpson, and potter Hiroshi Nakayama. $500-$10,000.

For the library: The bookstore has just entered into a partnership with the Boston fine art book firm Ars Libri, the largest dealer in America of out-of-print reference books and rare illustrated books of all periods of art. Prices range from $15 all the way up to $16,000, for a Bonnard book, but most are less than $150.

Fleeting beauty: If you're a fan of the MFA's springtime Art in Bloom showcase of flower arrangements, or have noticed the bouquets that decorate the museum year-round, stop by the shop on a weekend, when these decorations by the Museum Floral Design Associates of the Ladies Committee are on sale for $15-$50. They last only as long as the flowers do.
